Ninth World Wanderers
Background Information, About the World
Some background information.
About The World
There have been eight previous worlds. You may refer to them as ages, aeons, epochs, or eras, but it’s not wrong to think of each as its own individual world. Each former world stretched across vast millennia of time. Each played host to a race whose civilizations rose to supremacy but eventually died or scattered, disappeared or transcended. During the time that each world flourished, those that ruled it spoke to the stars, reengineered their physical bodies, and mastered form and essence, all in their own unique ways. Each left behind remnants.
The Ninth World is built on the bones of the previous eight, and in particular the last four.
In the southern part of the continent there is a habited area called the steadfast. This is a collection of kingdoms that are unified under a relgiion called The Order Of Truth. Outside the Steadfast is known as The Beyond.
The Order of Truth
The Order of Truth is the largest religion of this world, and is the unifying religion of The Steadfast. It is headed by an individual called The Amber Pope, and those who dedicate their service to the religion are called Aeon Priests Each individual city or town will have it’s own leadership structure, but the Amber Pope is held in higher regard (Think the actual Pope).
The Order of Truth reveres the people of the past and their knowledge on a quasireligious level of adoration and faith. It is a religion devoted to science.
Artifacts of the past are called The Numenera, and are divided into three groups. Cyphers, which only work once or twice but their use is largely understood. Artifacts whose affects are understood and work on demand (or close to it). And oddities. An oddities affects might be completely understood, but its purpose is not known. Whatever they do, they are either curious or entertaining.
This entire world is built to embody the quote “Any sufficiently advance technology is indistinguishable from magic.” In the air everywhere are little nano machines. Some people can tap into these machines to have them affect the world. Some people do this naturally. Maybe their a mutant, genetically engineered, an alien, from another dimension, or a descendant of the forementioned. Some people treat this as a science, even going as far to implant devices into themselves to use these machines.
These nano machines are suspended in the air above. Some people live in fear of The Iron Wind
The Iron Wind
This is a concentration of nano machines from the past. When some fall to the ground they can be used akin to magic. However if the Iron Wind manages to touch ground it will randomly transform whatever it touches, alive or not.
The Wandering Walk
This is a route that encompases most, if not all of the world. Remember the Ninth World is one giant continent (or is it?) No one knows how long the wandering walk is, as it is not completely mapped. The walk is too dangerous and hard to walk for it to be used as trade routes.
A Perigrine is someone who walks the Wandering Walk. The name is derived from the name of a bird, so those who don’t like Perigrines sometimes refer them as Birds (This is considered somewhat offensive). Perigrines often carry the mark of a wandering, a circular bloodscar on their palm. This scar gets larger the longer they walk.
Someone who walks the Wandering Walk for profit is called a Skulker. They can be straight up robbers and muggers, or simply looters. The Wandering Walk is dangerious, so it’s not unheard of to come across the body of a Perigrine who died to the elements or something they came upon.
